Last day in Firenze

Today was our last day. The tour we tried to book yesterday evening didn't work out so we waited 1h45 hour in line so we could see Michaelangelo's David. While we waited, I went to take pictures of the San Marco church and of the Spedale degli innocenti.

Basilica della Santissima Annunziata

It was a big fucking line !

The statue was impressive, as well as the other works of art found in the museum. In the museum, I met a coworker from Ubi MTL. Like she said "it's a small world but Ubi is big" ;)

After the museum, we went back to the Central Market to buy fish for our supper and 2 more bottles of alcohol (one Chianti and a bottle of Lemoncello). Along the way I also stopped to buy some Italian chocolate :D

San Lorenzo on the way to the market

We went back to the apartment to drop off our loot again and then went back right next to the market to eat at Mario's. A real, home-like, Tuscan trattoria (thanks Federica !). We had tried to go a couple of days earlier but the line up was crazy. The food was delicious and I discovered a new dessert that I totally love: biscotti and vin santo (it's more or less like a Sauterne). You dip the bisotti in the alcohol and eat then. Then you drink the rest of the alcohol. Miam!

It was late afternoon after that and we weren't really motivated to visit anything else so we went to the library where, our landlord had told us, there's a room for kids and a nice view of the Duomo. Shopped along the way, taking our time and taking in once more the beauty of the Duomo. When we got to the library we let Lianne play for half an hour and then left to get back home.

Lianne found a balloon and had fun kicking it while walking

Duomo and Campanile again

We had our last supper here which was again succulent and we're finishing up packing so we'll be ready tomorrow when we leave at 7am. Lianne's col is better at least so hopefully the flight back will go smoothly.

The last 2 weeks went by really fast but they were memorable. Italy is really a nice country to visit. I'm even tempted to say more so than the other European countries I've visited. But then again, it depends on what you like ;)

Last post will be tomorrow when I get back home. After that I'll go through the blog to add more links and pictures. Stay tuned for the final draft ;)
