October 18th (Yakushima and Kagoshima)

We got up around 7 and ate breakfast. We wanted to go see another trail before we left. After we paid the bill and as we were leaving, the daughter offered us a phone strap each with a piece of polished Yakushima cedar on it. The minshuku were selling a couple of things made out of pieces of wood found on the ground. It's one of the island's renown products. We were very touched by the gesture :)

We left the mimshuku and headed to Shiratani, another popular trail on the mountain. We didn't go far because Nath's knee was still hurting but we got some very nice pictures of waterfalls.

When we left and headed to the port to return the car, we saw a bunch of monkeys on the side of the road!!! They were eating each other's lices and there was a mother with her child that were so cute. I got pretty good pictures of them :D We also saw some more deers. Man, real live monkeys :D

We still had a bit of time before returning the car and taking our boat so we shopped for some souvenirs and bought some food for lunch. After that we chilled at the port.

The jet boat back to Kagoshima went well and when we got off, we tried to find our minshuku in Kagoshima. Good thing it was written in our travel guide that it was in an alley behind a temple :S We didn't have a hard time finding it. It's name was Nakazono.

We asked the owner where we should go to eat the local specialties. The restaurant he suggested was great. We ate satsuma-age (it's fried fish, tofu and shochu paste), kibinago (a small silver fish sashimi style), tonkotsu (boiled pork), chicken sashimi (yes raw chicken!) and we washed it all down with beer and shochu.

The city has a nice tramway system with grass between the rails

After that we went to an internet cafe where I updated my blog a bit and we went to bed after. The room at our minshuku was japanese style. It was clean and very nice to stay in :)
